What Bellhousing Needed?

I have just taken delivery of my V6 type 9, thanks Dave, but the bellhousing on my rocket box doesn't fit the bolt holes on the mating face of the gearbox, and the circle opening on the bellhousing is much smaller than the ring on the box. There is a 1" sandwich plate due to the longer shaft, so this is needed. Which tends me to think that the standard one is required. I would like to keep the spacer as it helps with the thermostat clearance.

Therefore, to mate it to my 1.8 zetec, will I need the V6 type 9 bellhousing, or the standard type 9? I think it will be the standard one due to the spacer.

If it is the standard one, has anyone got one please?

I'm not 100% on what you do need but you definitely don't want the V6 bell-housing. The V6 engines have a different bolt pattern on the engine so whilst a V6 bell-housing might fit the box it won't fit a 4-pot engine. Since the only physical difference in sizes between the V6 type-9 and a 4-pot one is the length of the input shaft then like you seem to have concluded I'd suggest you need a 4-pot bell-housing.

In one of the boys in hoods mags I had an article on how to do this.

I used the Caterham spacer which had an installed thickness of 30mm.

I used an ally RS2000 bell housing but the standard

Type 9 4 cylinder bell housing fits the same.

The thicker Capri thrust bearing is also an advantage

It is a fairly simple mod once you have a spacer, the spacer has to have a cut out for the plate over the larger bearing on the front of the V6 box

Hi Paul.

Yep, 30mm is what I have, and it has like a lip on the ring around the centre part (bearing as you say???) to take the opening on the mating face of the bellhousing.

I have the Sierra pinto starter motor, the 1.8 Escort zetec ring gear, Cortina 2.0 clutch release bearing, Escort clutch plate and cover. I located a 4 pot type 9 bellhousing on Ebay and just waiting for that to arrive, but I'm not sure if the clutch release arm in my old rocket box will fit, don't suppose if you know?

I don't know the answer to that, I do know that the V6 arm is bent at a larger angle than the standard and that the RS2000 arm is thinner.

The only problem will be if the arm hits the bellhousing, so you will be able to see if there is a problem before bolting it all up.

You will also be able to bolt the bellhousing to the engine without the gearbox to check clutch actuation.

If you have an older adjustable cable instead of the auto adjuster type, the earlier cable is easier to set up
