Hello to one and all.

Does anyone out there know if the flywheel on an

automatic box(pinto) is the same as the flywheel

on a type 9 5 speed?

I had a quick look at a manual, I couldn`t find

any reference to them being different but then again

I couldn`t find any reference to them being the same.

Any ideas?

I'm fairly sure that they will be very different.

Most of the mass on an automatic is the torque converter (Fluid flywheel) and there is normally some form of adaptor plate which fixes to the crankshaft rear flange and carries the torque converter and starter gear ring.

I suspect the flywheel on the automatic will just be a thin 1mm plate with a bent edge to take the ring gear for the starter.

:D tim is correct it is a mounting plate for the toque converter with a ring gear not much use on a manual

i presume your main point is to get a lighter flywheel, this topic has been done before,it has to be done right, just imagine it flying apart, hate to think the mess it would make

imho dont bother

No, nothing to do with lightening the flywheel,

I`ve bought a donor with an auto box and I

just wanted to know with reference to

converting to manual.

Anyone got a flywheel they don`t need?
