Adjustable Tca's On My Exmo

Recommended Posts

hi all, hopefully someone can help me with a question.

i want to change the set up on the exmo's front suspension, i have a tie bar conversion to do in the summer but need some advice from those in the know.

i want to fit adjustable tca's to alter the camber but have come across different descriptions and prices, i've mostly been looking at Compbrake Ltd as they seem to have the best prices.

my question is: what is the difference between a standard and cosworth tca, is the geometry slightly different?

standard: http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Suspension-Acc-39-s/Wishbones-TCA-S-Compression-strut/Ford-Sierra-Mk1-Mk2-Pinch-Bolt-Track-Control-Arms-Adjustable-by-CompBrake/prod_157.html

cosworth: http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Suspension-Acc-39-s/Wishbones-TCA-S-Compression-strut/Ford-Sierra-Mk1-2-COSWORTH-2WD-Track-Control-Arms-PAIR-NUT-TYPE/prod_170.html

another one: http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Suspension-Acc-39-s/Wishbones-TCA-S-Compression-strut/Ford-Sierra-Escort-and-Cosworth-Pinch-Bolt-Track-Control-Arms-Pair-Adjustable/prod_192.html

they all have different part numbers and prices,

i know that some of you have used adjustable tca's, did you come up against any issues, toe-in etc ?

cheers in advance

Dave

From what I understand, the Sierra hubs we use are nut type not pinch, so that rules out the bottom ones,

The Sierra ones (top) look like the ones, the most expensive.

You would have to ask what the difference is between cosworth and Sierra, I suspect the geometry or the ball joint taper but am not sure.

Having read again, you need the middle ones, Sierra Mk1 Mk2 & Cosworth should fit

Adjustable TCA' s and tie bars should give you all the adjustability you need to set it up well, I might even buy a set myself, would be easier than taking the mushroom out every time.

ok cool,

so the bolts or nuts refer to the hub,i thought that the pinch bolt or twin nut was at the wishbone/chassis end.

i'm still waiting for compbrake to get back to me with their explanation.

i'll wait a while longer before taking the plunge.

anyone else had any experience with these tca's

I've thought long and hard about these and have come to the conclusion that unless you are doing a lot of suspension changes I dont think they are worth the money.OK the rally lads use them but I know from exp that kerbing and ditch hooking can mean 2or 3 adjustments a day but if the money is burning a hole in your pocket do it regards mower man :good:

After fitting adjustable TCAs to my Exmo i found that the ability to easily nd accuratly dial in a sensible amount of camber (2 degrees neg from memory) made a huge difference to the handling and stability of the car under braking. As the exmo uses a "mini" mcpherson strut arangement only other way to do this is by re-jigging the top mount. IMHO its worth the expense.

thanks for the info,

i have thought about moving the top mount but figured that the control arms might be easier to fine tune albeit it an expense.

can you remember if they were cosworth or standard sierra ?

Hi Dave

I Beleive they were sold as being standard sierra, the company i bought from are long gone (TAS Motorsport) but i would have thought that there would not be any difference in geometry - yu would be setting your own in any case in terms of camber and castor.
