Bolts

Always worth a go at improvisation in a sensible way.

The only time I have "ever" had prop bolts shear, was on a large high pressure water pump that used 3/8 unf shear bolts.

That happened because a stupid operator engaged the pro at full revs with the pump pressure set at its highest.

I am talking 150 bhp at full speed into a brick wall kind of thing. 2000 let per min @ 3000 psi. From nothing to full.

Before I started fitting shear bolts, the propshaft itself used to shear.

Correct fitted bolts tightened to correct torque will not shear under normal working conditions. The flanges rely solely on them, not flat mating serfaces.

You have made the right and cheap choice.
