Is this bodge on my volts regulator ok? I ask because my fuel and temp gauges are totally unstable, and it makes me think the voltage they're getting isn't regulated. I couldnt get any power to them at all without soldering on that little green jumper wire.

There are components on the other side of that board...but you have already answered your own question... :huh: :mellow:

:rolleyes:

Why not just goto a scrappy?

Mine has a 7809 1Amp voltage regulator IC, It has 3 rather delicate legs which need soldering to. 12V in, Earth and 9V out. It is bolted to a piece of copper which serves as a heatsink and wrapped up in some insulating tape, mainly to stop the wires moving around and breaking the legs. (I should have made up a small circuit board).the centre pin is earth and the body of the IC is not insulated so the heatsink is also at earth potential. Size approx 2x1x0.4 ins.

78 & 79 are 3 terminal pos & neg voltage regulator series

7809 = 9v positive voltage regulator.

7805 = 5v pos version.

7812 = 12v pos version

etc.

7905 = 5v neg version

7912 = 12v neg version

etc

the LM317 refered to in the other thread is an adjustable voltage regulator

with the votage output adjusted & set by a resistor combination across it.

If I could see the component side I may be able to help you.

Although as I said to the guys in the other thread the older 2 terminal

devices were crude but much simpler to use.

OK cheers guys,

I think i'll head for the scrappy and try to get a two pin regulator because i have two 3 pins and cant get either of them to work.

What year did the 2 pin go up to?
