Ignition Coil ?

On behalf of a friend who is building his 2B (I'm helping):

I'm using an engine from a MKII Escort (2lt pinto, twin carbs) do I need the amp, if not which wires (using the VG loom) do I connect to the coil. Is it just a simple case of connecting the white and white/black wire to each side of the coil ?

Thanks in advance

If the distributer has points then you don't need the amp. If the distributer doesn't have points then you do need the amp...

Dave,

Thanks for the reply, I have just spoken to him and he said that was great (it has points). Do you have any ideas which way round the wires would go ?

Cheers

The coil may have + and - markings, if it does then the supply goes to the + side of the coil and the points connect to the - side.

If the coil has no markings then either way will work :D

Thanks for all the help, he said it's how he imagined it would work but needed a second opinion, I think it won't be the last query whe have about the loom though !

But I was refering to "knowledge of points", i.e. if you've got knowledge of points then you must be old like me :D
