Do all aftermarket/fast road cams require the fitting of shims when putting them in a blacktop? Any that are a direct swap? As in out with the old in with the new and turn the key?

I am using a 4 speed type 3 which is 20 spline on a 2.0L pinto, Would have thought as long as the clutch plate it 20 spline and upto the job it should be useable? Just my thoughts though and not based on fact. would be interested in finding out for if I ever swap over to a zetec as I like the ratios on the type 3.
As long as the bolt pattern on the bellhousing is correct which it must be seeing as it's bolted to a pinto at the mo then you must be ok. I read a thread yesterday that said you needed a 5 speed but have since realised that must have been incorrect.

That's quite handy to know, what kind of room for movement are we talking?
-
and I have got to move gearbox forward to make room for water rail at back of engine
New prop or spacer then?
-
Yes it is .
Thanks

Ok, I was under the impression the input shaft what what the clutch would slide onto?

I am trying to fit a 1.8 zetec flywheel to a pinto clutch in a type nine box don't know why a four speed wont fit I would have thought if you use a four speed friction plate change flywheel and pressure plate as the four speed fits pinto and five speed why would casing be different
I think the bellhousing is the same (I wrongly assumed it might be different and after seeing a post saying you can't use a 4 speed). Dead easy to swap if not, as long as the input shaft is infact 1"x23 like I've read it should be then I'll be fine. The only thing I could do with confirming now is if the Type E sits any further forward or backward than the type 9? And just for any reassurance that it will all work!!

Just been doing some reading up and my plans to simply bolt all this to my existing box might be buggered, I have a 4 speed quaife rocket clubman........ Just read its a 5 speed box I need as the castings are different?? Its a type E that I infact have after reading up, PLEASE advise.

That's all good then, sounded worse than It is. What option did you go for with clutch and flywheel? I'm thinking of just keeping the standard set up and getting a spigot bearing, did you need a clutch arm pin too?
-
How much needs chopping away as ££££££ is the less preferred option!
-
going to get the angle grinder on the sump today to make way for starter motor
Is hacking away at the sump the only option? Is your engine bolting onto a type9?
Thanks for all replies btw.

If it was me i would tap into all four inlet pipes then tee together, Then take a main pipe to the servo, this would stop one cylinder going lean. But in my opinion you do not need a servo if you get your brake cylinder size and fulcrum point correct.
The inlet is being made with a servo pipe in the hope I can fit the lump in with the servo in situ, any pictures of anyone that's managed this. I've read a horror story or two about pedal boxes!

Hi and thanks in advance for any help, I'll most probably ask all the usual questions.
Crate blacktop going in a cortina based S7 running DANST ITB's OMEX ECU and custom loom, bolting onto a type 9 box.
So for the questions!!
1. What are the chances of me fitting the engine and keeping the servo? Any tips? Any way I can make this work?
2. Exhaust manifold, I've already had some advice on an option. I'm keen to have the pipe exit the side. I spoke to Richard from GBS and he advised one without flanges but I didn't fully understand what he meant, minus flange so I can cut the pipes down for the correct width?
3. Kit spares engine mount suitable for the s7?
4. What psi fuel pump will I need? I already have a return pipe fitted. (GSXR1000 ITB's)
Thanks!

Thanks again.

I was planning on passing it through a new hole and maybe using the old hole as some sort of cold air feed.
How much was it also? The one for kit parts is £200.

Hi,
Getting all the bits together for a zetec conversion on my cortina based S7. Seen a couple of exhaust manifolds on kit parts ones for a zero gt the other for a standard zero. Either be suited to mine?

Thanks very much!

Thanks, is a blacktop also referred to as a zetec R? Or are they different?
-
Any suggestions, I've found some on eBay for £830. Any place that's cheaper? Ideally Surrey/Sussex or London area so I can collect. Brand new blacktop zetecs.
Thanks in advance

Thanks again.

Thanks, I'm guessing your car had a cortina steering setup?
-
Thanks. I should have made the reason I'm asking more clear. I'm looking to get a quick release hub, do I need a 3/4" or 5/8" one? Thanks again!

Hi,
Does anyone know what size a cortina based steering column will be?
Thanks in advance.
Another Zetec Conversion Thread!

Smart moneys on the retro ford flywheel then, not lightened but lighter and more options going forward.
