Ball-joints....

Hi guys, time to sound dumb again (so whats new!)

Took a look at steering alignment over the weekend and took a spanner to the push rod ball-joint nut that connects to the front upright. The nut turned and so did the threaded bit that comes out of the joint :boohoo: :boohoo: The other side is fine, and undoes easily enough.

So the question is... once I take a nut splitter to the Nyloc (that sounds painful) and have the thing free, will the push-rod ball-joint need replacing? If so does any superspecer know what these things are off ?????

cheers

As Steve says, unless there's play in the actual ball part of the joint, all you need to do is get the nut off without knackering the thread of the ball joint. If you can't get hold of a nut splitter, grind the side of the nut down until you're close to the thread, you'll find that you've weakened it enough for it to come loos on the thread now.
