  1. Hi Not been on here in a very long time, just trawling through SS posts and spotted this, so I'll mine to the list: Red Superspec 05 model with T16(non-turbo) and MT75 box, SVA'd (as it was back then) 2007, Registered Mar 07 SORN for 2 years, but looking to get it back on the road, this summer, with new coil-overs tho (still has the old zeemerides!) Ian
  2. Hi I have one of these myself. Does your EMU have the immobiliser circuit rewired, or is it still active? If I forget to deactivate it then she fires up once and dies -a bit like what you're describing. Also be careful when testing the spark, these old EMU's can get temperamental grounding the plug to the engine, best to use a spark tester, just in case (I managed to fry one once ) Ian
  3. Hi If you decide to try to finish it yourself, here's what I did: 1. Cut the brackets as described in the video and push them over the bar ends. Measure from the inner end of the brackets to the edges of the top of the upright (where the bar is welded on) Get that equal on both sides of the car. lay the cycle wings over to make sure they sit right. I then ran a drill straight through, bolted as a temp fix and welded. 2. I welded a plate to the top rail at the back of the boot for the lock to latch to, But I didn't use the supplied brackets - I got some mini ones and fitted to the top of the lid. Seems to work OK. Still haven't filled the holes in the grp around the roll bar tho 3. This needs two, and care. I drew a line across the scuttle where the lower edge was to be and had someone hold it in place, marked the sides, drilled and coach bolted 4. You have to have the seatbelts in first, and I found the runners snagged slightly, so a bit of angle grinding maybe required. Lots of piccy's on my website. Need anything else feel free to drop me a line e

    Mesh?

"perhaps you could get a tin top and not ruffle your hair ? steve" who said I had any hair
  5. Hi I aryldited mags to the top of two propshaft bolts (not in the picture) and made an Ali bracket for the sensor. I did end up doubling the thickness of the bracket to stop it wobbling slightly. e

    Mesh?

Hi Thanks for all the feedback guys!! I'll check out the suggestions. I hear what you some of you are saying about a rear fit doesn't do much, but its worth experimenting with e

    Awning Track

Hi They're talking about Polyurathene adhesive, like Sikaflex. On my 'spec i drilled the poppers screws into the top frame around the rear, through the GRP boot cover e

    Mesh?

Hi folks I've been looking for the mesh fabric that manufacturers use on softops (to reduce airflow around the old noggin). And I've failed miserably to source the stuff. Anyone out there got any leads for this stuff? cheers e

    What's This Pipe For?

Hi John I have a 2004 'Spec. Sounds like you have the right number of tapes for the build - I had three. Found only 50% to be useful. You get more answers on here (fab site). As for the bit of pipe.... i had some of that and for the life of me I can't remember what I did with it Certainly didn't use it for the remote res for the brakes - bought some proper stuff for that. Didn't use it anywhere in the fuel lines, but probably would have been easier hooking up the fuel filter than what I did Sorry not much help really am I!? Have fun. If you have anymore questions drop us a line e

    New Super Spec

Hey dude welcome to the Super-duper-millionaires club Have fun with the kit - got any questions post them on here, or drop us a line. Website et al below If spray pianting the chassis I'd etch prime it first, or use a self etching chassis paint. I didn't paint the chassis at all myself - and I still don't know if that was a good thing or a bad one Happy building e

    Mclaren Guilty!

Well having now read the fia's findings as published to the media there is some evidence that information was shared with 2 drivers. But there is no proof where that info came from?!? The fia clearly states it doesn't need proof to find McLaren guity. Only a suggestion of wrong doing. In fact the FIA has chosen to believe what it wants - ie they don't believe any of the statements form McLaren employees about what happened. So if you might possibly be guity then you must be..... e

    Mclaren Guilty!

now that'd be worth seeing!! e

    Mclaren Guilty!

Obviously the FIA are still to publish their findings. But at last the witch hunt has caught Ron, and lets face it that is what this is really all about: to get McLaren and Ron Denis, one of the most successful managers and teams AND most outspoken! Yes their guy had documentation, but looking at the time lines given so far; he only had that after the MP4-22 was already hitting the test track with very fast times! Taking Constructor points and not driver points is a nonescence - but taking driver points would have been suicide for the FIA given that this is the best season in 10 years. The fine is massive and only 2 team could afford such a huge fine for this crime: Ferrari and McLaren. So if another smaller team gets caught down the line doing something similar is the FIA going to fine them $100M? and bankrupt them? Probably not.... but in that case how does that stack against fair and equitable ? Well obviously it doesn't. I was a fan of ferrari through to the mid 90's when the gang of three arrived since then I can't support them as a team - they have no ethics! Critising everyone as though they never did anything worng, but they have cheated many many times, even this year they ran an illegal car in OZ and won and have kept the points?!?!?! The really odd thing about all this is..... that the McLaren does not have any Ferrari technolgy on it, and the FIA agreed with that 2 months ago. So exaclty how McLaren have cheated to the tune of No Points and $100M is staggering. Anyway rant over! Lewis for Champion!!!!!! Alsonso for Runner up !!!!!!! and Nick Hiedfeld for 3rd e
  14. Hi Echoing everything thats gone before.... I have a super spec. I had the Kit for 2 years and probably spent 14+ months actually working on it 1 night a week and 1 day at weekends. I love my car BUT it was not the easiest thing to build; the vast majority of that was cos you're build a car! However there were things that weren't quite right and needed some work and I did swear a few times about RH Personally I think the quality is good - mebbe not Caterham standard, but then it doesn't cost caterham prices.... I did consider a caterham, but couldn't afford it, I even considered an original Lotus 7, but couldn't face stripping it down to refurb and rebuild. So I wanted something that came as a job lot and was new and shiney. The only advantages to me of a superspec over the 2B are: everything comes with it (well it did in 2005 inc engine and drive train), its a new car on a new plate and having spent a lot of time checking out the 2B builder sites I think there is less involved in the build. For £7K I have a brand new sports car on a 07 plate that does 0-60 in about 5(ish) seconds and a top speed of 120mph (on a circuit obviously) and I get looked at whenever I drive it .. and I made it myself To be honest I would not do it again, but thats because the whole Kit Car thing was always going to be a once in a life time experience...... but if I did want to do it again it would have to be a GT40 e PS - this site and the support you get during your build is abso-flipping-lutely fantastic!!!!!

    Sva Result

Hey Rich Excellent result, roll-on the retest... Look forward to seeing you at the next show e
  18. I'm Assuming you mean the top mounts that go through the cross member under the rollbar. If so, then its not an issue (well not at Beverley SVA station) e
  19. Hi I used telemetrix guages with the existing senders and feeds on my 'spec. The only gauge I have a problem with is fuel. The output from the tank is very low (3 - 15 Ohms I think) and the input on the gauge is 18 - 108 (again I think). A quick SVA solution (for the full tank requirement) was an inline resistor to push the 18 ohms to around 105. I still havent got around to developing a self adjusting variable resistance circuit so I have to watch the mileage for fuel e

    Dash

HI I pop rivetted alli fillets in the corners. Dash is covered with 2mm sponge foam and leather so you can see the join e
  21. HI I stuck with the RH ones, I did remove the mid hose bracket, the bracke pipe union is attached to the car just behind the lower wishbone. Made a bracket out if 1.5" square steel and the wishbone bolts pass though it to secure it to car and brake hose bracket sit on the top. Went through SVA no probs e
  22. Hi Stan Oh so close! But hopefully it wont take long now! As Will says there are two ways to do the plumbing, the original as specified by RH just circulates the water in and out of the expansion bottle and eventually out of the over flow RH's way had a T section out of the bottom of the bottle that connects to the bottom rail from the thermostat housing and the rad. With the small rail from the thermostat connected at the top of the bottle. What you actually need is for the two rails to be connected together, the bottom of the bottle connect only to the rad and the small top bottle blanking off. Hope that makes sense e

    Emissions

Hi Richard Sorry to hear about your problems. I'm guessing you've checked the obvious things like vacuum hose connected etc cos that can cause havoc with the engine idleing/running. There is only one thing to add to all of the above: When I got mine tested I got different results depending on which tail pipe the nossle was pushed up . Top pipe I got 1.007 bottom pipe I got 1.3! Fortunately the SVA man went for the top one in the end. e PS good to put a face to the Avatar at Stoneleigh

    Rover Ecu

I Rich I had to replace the Ford Lambda for the Rover. The emissions were off the chart (1.32). As soon as I put the "proper" part in I got 1.007 reading. Sourced from a local Motor Factor NGK/NTK part no: 0ZA527-E9 regards e
