well took ya advice and gunked it poped it in a plastic window box £1.99,

and brushed it over wiff petrol,

than filled the window box with some other grubby bits, and topped it up with paraffin,

willl leave it to soak for a few days then start cleaning it up with a wire brush on a drill, followed by porting with my trusty dremmel!!!

mix up a mild alkaline solution and let the head sit in it for 15mins, for how ever long it takes to go all brown/black foam .. removes all the carbon from the exhaust ports and all the grease from everywhere..

I use NaOH, sodium hydroxide or draincleaner, works a treat. Make sure that you rinse it off with some weak acid solution like 50/50 vinegar in hot water to neutralise the pH..

Hi

In my previous job we used a soda based hot wash for degreasing

large bearings and general gunge removal.

Have done this at home with ordinary household washing soda

and water and then boiled over a gas jet with excellant results.

I hasten to add not on the wifes cooker ,well not when she is in.
