Pinto Sump

I am trying to get the sump off my engine, which is installed in my Exmo. I've undone all 23 bolts and given it the gentle tap with a hammer suggested in my Haynes manual, but it is stuck fast. The manual advises against prising it off

Before I give it some serious welly and presumably dent the thing, has anyone got any bright ideas?

Sometimes you have to go against the instructions, get a big flat screwdriver and carefully lever the sump off, the most important thing is not to damage the Block, so go between the gasket and the sump itself so the gasket will afford some protection to the block :D :D

Well I know what I mean

Ditto - when I got mine off, I did the same - prised twixt sump & gasket. It had been on since the factory - all 79000 miles and boy was it stuck. There is a bit of distortion likely, but it can be straightened with the good old method of laying the flange on a block of wood and attacking it with a 1lb hammer. I usually do this anyway with metal sump flanges to restore the flat surface, where the bolts tend to "pull through".
