5 stud (possibly from a granada)

calipers are single pot girling units with no ABS fitted

they are not cosworth either

no electrical wiring for wear indicators either

according to the build manual standard sierra ones are 240mm cossies are 273mm?

If as you state you have 5 stud hubs then you deff. have not got sierra runing gear.

It seems to me that you have granada brakes.

got some more info i remembered i had - the original builder wrote on the back of a pic he sent me ..

'escort mark 2 stub axle... if you fit one granada wheel bearing and one from the escort it allows you to fit the granada 5 stud disc - cutting and re-welding where the caliper bolts on allows you to use the granada caliper...'

i have been all over trying to get the calipers - was gonna just clean it up but thought... naaa - it will probably go again sooner or later so due to the age of it time for replacements.. the seals i took off was all corroded badly on the piston - one pad wasnt even touching the disc!!! i have some on order now from girling using the part number stamped on the side - hopefully they will be in my mits by tomorrow night - get em on and bled..

one question boys n girls - brake fluid of unknown type - can i mix? dunno if its 3.1 or 5.1.. ideas? how can i tell without havin a bottle of whats in? suppose i could drain it all out and refill.. right fart on tho.. but if thats whats required...

getting there.. and sick of spending - i dont call it repairing but evolving... ^_^

brake fluid of unknown type
Chances are it will be DOT 3 or DOT 4 depending on when it was last changed as DOT 3 is now hard to find and in any case DOT 4 will mix with it ok. But if you don’t know when it was last changed do so now, pick up a couple of litres when you get your calipers and just empty the brake reservoir and fill with new fluid then bleed all round until really clean fluid is coming through. This should be done every 2 years but who does?

When bleeding keep topping up the reservoir its annoying when you get to the last wheel and introduce air into the system and have to start again.
