Apparently there is a requirement by The Use of Invalid Carriages on the Highways Regulations 1988, that mobility scooters must be registered with the DVLA.

This means that each one must be issued with a registration number and must display a tax disc - however registration plates do not have to be attached to the vehicle and the tax disc is free.

The tax disc must be displayed - penalty for not displaying £ 80.

All scooter owners are being contacted and have to fill in forms, return them to DVLA, etc, etc, etc.

Oh well, I suppose that it goes some way to reducing unemployment in Wales

Just another thought - when it's three years old will the owners need to fork out ~£50 for a MOT

If this includes old people carriages could be a good thing. The police will be able to trace where they live when they forget.... boom boom

Seems a bit OTT....

Personally i think they should be banned as they go VERY SLOWLY, have crap lights and the drivers round here have a nasty habit to drive about a foot out from the hedge on blind corners. And when there not in the road there trying to bowl you over on the pavements
