When our kids' hamster used to get behind fixed items of furniture. We would leave a trail of hamster food leading towards his cage. Next morning there he was in the cage.

Thus all you need is a well laid trail of gerbil food and a fair degree of patience

or

Get length of plastic tube internal diameter ~ external dia of gerbil. Place gerbil in one end of tube, other end of tube in desired orifice and blow like hell
