I heard they had people stationed on several key blind juctions with radios to tell him if anything was coming the other way. When he got to the end of the drive he realised he had forgotten to turn his radio on!

He's a mad man!! You can turn right on a red light in France - but he wasn't!!

This thing has been analysed again & again.... IT's a great piece of film but he wasn't actually going that fast!!

its a well made film.

 

if you waych the speed he closes on and overtakes other cars

 

he is not going that fast

 

obviously low tyre pressures to give the squeal

 

the noises trick you into thinking he is going quicker than he is..

BazWaz was right, VBH did it on 5th gear recently and took about that long,

 

if memory serves:

 

>director borrowed relatives Merc

>fitted camera low down to give impression of speed

>'dubbed' over the top the sound a ferrari Dino, or similar (it was analysed by geeks who concluded the car was the ferrari, it couldnt possibly have been that the sound was just put on top DOH?!?!?!)

>tyre squeals al different ones recorded on a track

> only did one take, did it at dawn or dusk so he had a free run

 

also common sense just by looking at it, you see cars going speed limit, say 50mph, and then he overtakes them relatively slowly, so only going 60 or maybe 70mph

 

 

 

having said all the above its a fantastic bit of film, really gets the senses going
