Hi all,

Thanks for your replies and nice to have the support. Yes Richard your old hoody is certainly pretty quick and very noisy. i am located in Aylesbury at the moment but a bit undecided where to take the car, so if any one can recommned a good mechanic in the bucks area i would be very happy. i am quite happy to spend money on getting her running well but trusting any one around here is difficult. Would taking her to a specialist be a possibility? I will try and post some photos of the breather system that has been rigged up. cheers chris. ps Does this mean the oil is overheating.

You are unlikely to find a "specialist" that will want to help you with it... you usually have to work on these cars yourself unless you can find an enthusiastic local guy.

You could try the type of place that has a rolling road & does carb/injection tuning etc. They are likely to have someone on site clever enough to help you!

It just so happens that I travel up and down the M40 twice a week at least. If you PM me your phone number I'll drop in one day and bring the comp tester along. We can also have a look at your oil breather setup.

Unless someone's not looked after it or done something silly hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it because the last time I went in that car a couple of years ago it went like a rocket.

I'll also have my laptop with me so we can connect up and see whats happening on the ECU

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, met Chris today at J4 of the M40 and its all good news :D :D

Richard's right, looks like someone had played with the oil breather setup. Its got both the filter on the cam cover breather and the breather under the manifold, that hadn't been directed to a catch tank. It had been spewing but isn't now as a catch tank has been fitted. I'll make a pattern of my blank plate so Chris can have one made and maybe do wiithout this like mine.

Did a comp test just just in case but of course its spot on, exactly the same as mine. Plugs a great colour.

Connected the laptop up to the ECU and all sensors are working spot on, idle is a bit low but that can be adjusted on the throttle bodies. Program and settings are all perfect. Temp is running as normal and fan on / off is correct, dash gauge is a bit erratic but who cares.

Sump has been knocked a bit (not shortened) hence the weeping, but nothing to worry about.

Everything's in good shape Chris so get on and enjoy it, you've got a great car there (and it was a bargain!!)

PS new Ford met blue paint job on the nosecone, wings and rear arches looks good too

A Big thanks to Andy for coming to have a look at the Hoody. I am now alot more confident about the car and am looking forward to the required armfuls of oppposite lock and soiled underwear.. ( next step to buy a helmet ). I even took the car in to work, which is cool as we have a tunnel linking the offices.. imagine the noise.
