I have been offered a Cossy V6 but at this early stage don't know whether

A. i can be bothered

or

B. if it will fit

I think its all ally so will weight anout the same as the Pinto but with those overhead cams will it be a bit high/wide for my 3a

Any thoughts, especially from those with a V6 in already.

Nope it will be a Cologne cast iron block. Puts out about 200BHP in standard tune. heavy but a lot of torque. Also if it's a BOA ( early type) it's a lovely looking engine. May be wide. with those twing cam heads. I'm a bit biased though running a V6 in mine.

You'll want a Type-9 from an XR4i or 2.8 Granada.

Not sure on the MT75 route - in Sierras they would all be the MTX as by that time the only V6's were 4x4's. Unfortunately the bell-housing is part of the same casting as the main body of the gearbox so you can't just grab the bell-housing and use it on a different box.

I'd assume the Grandads kept the 2wd version for the 2.9 so you might find a V6 version of the MT75 from one of those.

Careful, MTX is FWD version of the MT75. They were fitted to:

Escort Mk5/6 130PS

Escort Mk5/6 RS2000

Mondeo

Focus 1.8D/2.0/RS (not ST170)

Yeah most Granny's were rwd but I didn't know if the MT75 would fit in a hood. The Type-9 has to be the easiest route but I'm finding it extremely difficult sourcing parts at present. Anyone know of any suppliers who have the V6 T9 bellhousing?

Don't all 2litre DOHC engines run the MT 75?

If they do then they will fit.

Might be wrong though.

If "Ginger Fix" fitted a V8 in his S7 then I feel sure a V6 will.

Have a look on Flea Bay at these...

160293488280 Bell Housing

220296208174 Gear box

Maybe what you need...

The Gear Box is from a Pinto. You need one with a longer input shaft (easy to spot as it calnt be stud on the front face of the bell housing). Nice bell housing through.

If you contact some of the Ford Sierra/Granada/Scorpio scrappers on ebay they have them in stock. Quoted me something like £150-£200 for box, clutch, belhousing, flywheel. Ill dig out his user id if it's of use to anyone?

If you could that would be great :)

The DOHC has the same stud pattern as the Pinto. The V6 is different and as I mentioned the bell-housing is one with the main casing on the MT75 so unfortunately no they won't fit.

I thought MTX was the designation for the 4x4 version of the gearbox rather than the FWD - that's what I meant anyhoo.

There's an ebay seller called Sierra Shack who seems to grab any scrappers and specialise in breaking them. You could try them for a V6 XR4i gearbox.

The Type 9 gearbox on the Pinto has a shorter input shaft than the one found on the V6,

the V6 has the longer input shaft, better ratios and a larger front bearing.

You can fit the V6 box to the Pinto, DOHC, Zetec, etc with a 30mm thich spacer and the Pinto bell housing but you cannot fit the standard type 9 to a V6 even with the bell housing and clutch release arm.
