In judging any item the examiner will compare the item to those normally

employed for the specific purpose by a major manufacturer. Any item that

appears to have been fitted to prevent a meaningful assessment to be

made or that does not appear to be manufactured or applied permanently

as would be expected of a major manufacturer will be considered to be

“Temporary” and the IVA 30 will be endorsed with “A meaningful

assessment could not be undertaken in respect to” followed by the

relevant item and or RS number. This applies to items such as covers

(rubber or otherwise) that are held in place by being stretched on, or

attached by double sided tape or other inadequate means. Rubber hose,

pipe lagging etc Note This not an exhaustive list but provided as guidance

as to the type of item considered to be un acceptable.

I would think this is aimed at the obvious things like covering the lower edge of the dash with rubber pipe and using same for the steering arms but it could cause problems with nut covers and edge trim, this is definitely worth a call to VOSA to clarify.

I know that Tifosi's nut covers were SVA approved as were the electrical cable glands they sold as track rod adjuster covers.

My top ball joint had Tifosi covers and the nut had neoprene cable tied on and covered in heat shrink.
