 i think ive seen this posted somewhere else but can not find where

i have just fitted new carbon fibre cycle wings on my s7,(look great)i have fitted them very close to the tyres on purpose (bugger to get the wheels of doh)

the problem is that the bottom of the wings touch the tie bars on full lock.

is there a way of limiting the travel on lock.please dont say no as the wings look really cool :D

You can, but it will have a detremental effect on your turning circle.

To do it you remove the clips holding the gaiters onto the steering rack and slide the rubber back. Then wind the steering rack out on the side you're on and you'll see a knuckle on the end of the rack. Fitting a jubilee clip tightly onto the rack behind the knuckle means that the clip acts as the stop rather than the knuckle, hence the travel is reduced. Do that both sides to get it symetric.

One thing to beware of. When I did this to my 2B (RHE rack as per wishbone setup) the head of the jubilee clip fouled on the rubber gaiter and tore it. The standard gaiters are plastic and really easy to tear. I replaced them with rubber ones from a metro and it's fine now. Failing that some people have fitted a section of gas pipe over the rack to act as a stopper too. Whatever route you take make sure the new object (clip or section of pipe etc) can't move along the rack and jam the mechanism, hence preventing you from cornering!
