Any More V8 S7's Out There

Well, its been a busy weekend!

After collecting my Rover V8 (dismantled) last week while I was working away, I spotted another V8, straight out of a 1989 Range Rover with EFi AND five speed box. Described as a very good runner (lets hope he's honest) I couldnt resist bidding and got it for £123! :D

So now I have TWO V8's so plenty of spares......

I intend to make a stand to fire up the engine on once it is back here and then give it a full service and a fresh coat of paint before deciding the best way to shoehorn it into the S7 engine bay.

I know Bazwaz has an S7 V8 (he's the one got me into this!) but are there any other V8's out there?

I would be interested to know if it is worth keeping the stock EFi gear or reverting back to the Twin SU's that I have on my spare engine.

The V8 Burble, coming to a garage in Gloucestershire soon....... :D:D:D

Mines a 4L with the the Weber 500 carb on an Edelbrock manifold, but it's in a 2B. If I were you I would stick to the EFI. More power and better economy. Plus, if in the future you decide to go for Megasquirt, it is an easy upgrade, just change the box and get a map! If you can fit it in try to get a balance pipe fitted in the exhaust. It needs to be just behind the collectors. Makes for a better sound and smoother running.

Thanks Tim!

Showing my ignorance, being a carb only man to date, can you explain in terms suitable for a complete novice what additional items would need I over a carb'd set up engine to hook up the EFi already on the engine and what are the performance differences between using say, twin SU's and the stock EFi system?

In an ideal world I guess a megasquirt would be the way to go but that will have to be a later option as I feel this is going to be an expensive year.....

another v8 here, this time in a vindicator sprint.

pretty standard set up, with su carbs for now. finally got out in it this weekend and seems to go really well with its new coil and magnecor leads.

you're right about the expensive year on the cards!

worth it though.

the best sound in the world. and even when i'm making the tea i can poke my head through the garage door and see the Su's poking through the bonnet in the darkness, and that makes me grin like a loon!

Well Paul I have to say it's the sound of the V8 that turned me on to V8 Power! There is nothing else like it is there? I can see me starting the engine on the test bed everytime I go in the garage and doing about three gallons of fuel a week before the engine even gets in the car!!!

Dont mention the expense, especially to the missus :D

Another one here, but in a 2B again. Mine's a 3500 from an SD1 with an LT77 gearbox, Weber 500 carb and edelbrock manifold, big cam, luminition ignition kit and stainless headers.

Makes me smile every time it fires up, smile even more when the right foot goes down in whatever gear I'm in :D

Go with the injection instead if the SU's if you can, but either will give you plenty of power.

Fortunately there are a lot of specialist spares suppliers and you can pick most engine parts up as cheap as pinto parts so it shouldn't be too expensive.

Thats what I told the Missus :D

I do like the look of the Weber 500 carb, will have to weigh up the £500 ish cost against getting the EFi hooked up....any ideas on a cost of doing this anyone please????
