Pinto Hp Oil Pump Driveshaft

Hello all,

Probably should have asked this before fitting the engine <_< , but never mind...

Now feeling very guilty because I re-used the donor oil pump driveshaft (2.0i Pinto with new high pressure oil-pump).

So, are there horror stories around driveshaft/oil pump destruction that should make me flog myself in despair using a length of old radiator hose? Conversely, am I worrying over nothing?

Your soothing comments/silly ar$e type comments invited (but be gentle, must protect my back in case flogging is needed).

Cheers,

Hi Feek,

I have a highly tuned Pinto with a high pressure / high flow pump. The guys who built my engine (specialised engines) said that this was rarely an issue with Pinto engines - more of a problem with the Essex etc but i fitted a hardened one 'just in case'. As you have done the deed and fitted the engine I would suggest that for piece of mind you fit an oil pressure gauge and keep an eye on it at each start up. At the end of the day if it fails you will have to replace it anyway so why not see how it goes, you may be worrying over nothing.

Regards, Boggie

Thanks for the info Boggie.

I got my pump from Burtons, as I was getting some other bits and bobs from them as well. It is externally identical to the one I took off - which I assume was OEM given the state of it! :)
