1800 Pinto + 1600i Head

Good new to all those with 1800 pintos ..

I have been looking into replacing my 1800 leaded pinto head with a unleaded one..

Have discovered that the 1.6i pinto head fits the 1.8 bores ( only 0.5m in radius different) the difference in bore size is next to nothing, and would advise to use the original 1800 head gasket to fire seal the bore. :)

The 1.6i head has smaller combustion chambers! giving a compression ratio on the 1800 block of 10.3-10.7:1 depending on what vehicle the 1.6i was from.

:)

Has anyone else looked at this before. . .seems a good move, gettinga higher CR ( not to high for quality unleaded) and also the benefit of unleaded seats. !!!

Post a reply if anyone has heard of this, or has a similar combination in use..

:) :) :) :) :D

1600 heads are quite often used as the basis for higher compression 2l engines as it's better to open the chambers quite a lot than to have to skim loads off a head with bigger chamber to start with. The 1600 head can conceivably be used on a 2l block straight away but I beleive the compression ratio will be way too high. In theory your swap should be fine as 10-1ish is a good compression ratio without putting too much stress on other things. I wasn't aware that Ford had injected anything other than the 2.0 Pintos though.

:) Yea, Ive read that in Vizards book.

Im just looking out for 1.6i engine/car . .

Ive spent a few minutes today in a lecture alculating all the chamber sizes of the 1.8 , 1.8 & 2.0 engines and the various combinations you can use and what CR they give..

1.6 head ona 2.0 block gives about 11.7+ :1 a bit much for std unleaded

1.6 head ona 1.8 block gives about 10.3-7 :1 just right for me . .

2.0 head ona 1.6 block gives about 8.2:1 - - good for a high output turbo engine.

Hi,

I had it on ebay, but the winner guzumpt me, user caller Mark

later was re-advertised, but then attracted no-genuine bids.

The engine had also been advertised on www.fastroadandtrack.com @ £325

and yesturday (!) I recieved an email from a guy who saw it on the www.fastroadandtrack.com , and is genuinely interested and is travelling up to buy it on sunday 22/04, we negotiated on the advertised 325 price, and we settled on 275, a bargain ( more £ in parts) . . ., I just hope he does turn up.

The engine is going into a Ford Escort RS2000 Track day car. !

- pleased its going to a good home..

I need to sell it due to financial issues, but am hoping that I will beable to build another pinto engine maybe over the summer. I would like to build a 1.6i Turbo engine with a 1.8 Head to give a 8.3:1 CR to enable to handle high boost pressure...

watch this space.
