does anyone know the standard diff and gearbox ratios of a G-reg 1.6 laser before I resort to dismantling and counting teeth.

No Idea, that's the information that I got. I would assume that the 5 speed type 9, is a 5 speed type 9. Full stop! whatever it was fitted to. But I will stand corrected by the information swallowers.

According to Mr Haynes all Type 9 5-speed boxes were the same, it was just the diffs that changed.
