Braided Wire Between Solenoid And Starter

Managed to get the engine wiring in my Sub-K finished this afternoon after a short break... OK, a 5 year break... ;)

Turned the key and hooray - the engine spun over merrily - then stopped.

Turns out the short braided wire that connects the solenoid to the starter motor positive was completely corroded and burnt through.

The wire in question goes through a rubber grommet type arrangement in the starter motor casing.

Does anyone know if this can be replaced, or is it easier to buy a new starter motor?

Cheers!

Feek.

Sounds like you could have the same as I had ,mine turned out to be a Marrelli starter and you need to buy new brush gear to change that wire. The starter needs stripping and the new brushes soldered to a copper plate and cost about fourteen pound to buy .I bought a reconditioned starter for thirty six quid + the VAT

Yeah, I decided a new/recon starter motor was the way forward - brand new for £55 on eBay. Think mine's a Bosch starter BTW.

Will fit it at the weekend and we'll see how it all goes...

Thanks utuber & Dan for info.

Cheers,

Feek.
