Runs Rough

Hi all. I have a 2.1 pinto running on EFi with lowered Plenum. It has started running very roughly at normal running revs and above, though dipping the clutch and letting it idle for a couple of seconds seems to clear it for a short while. It runs and revs quite normally when not under any load. :boohoo: Tootling around at 30 seems to be the only option at the moment. Any ideas where to start looking?

Try changing the coil. We've had this a few times, where when it's got hot, it starts to break down under load, it'll manage say, up to 2000rpm then starts to miss terrible. Leave it alone, let it cool for a hour or two, and it's fine until it gets hot again.

Almost gauranteed to be fuel starvation but does not have to be the supply.

Make sure there are no splits in the air trunking between the airflow meter and the throttle unit.

Check that you are getting a pint in 20 seconds through the return pipe (after the pressure regulator). If not, check filter then the pump.

Never run this system without a filter in line.

Next do following checks in this order.

Airflow meter.

Throttle pottentiometer.

Coolant temp sensor.

Regards.

:( Don,t think it is the coil overheating as it does not have to be running for long before it starts.

Not the Air trunking as this is fine.

Seem to have enough fuel. (well over 1/2 litre in 20 seconds)

How do I go about checking the Airflow meter, Throttle pot and temp sensor then?

Many thanks

Richard

Check out the North Westhoodies site here for some files on the injection setup. They detail how to check out the various components using a multimeter.
