Hi

 

Sounds like you have an early scuttle/dash.

 

some were made so that the dash was removable others the whole scuttle, a lot just prayed they didn't have to go back under there.

 

If you have no alternative but to take a drill to it, have a look at the GBS fiber-glass dash before you do.

 

old dash is cut back to leave a flange, flange is drilled to take riv-nuts and new dash is bolted into scuttle, bit of cutting and trimming, but the dash including clocks etc can be removed in minutes, especially if the dash loom to main loom is mod to plug together.
