:D I know of a Hood that will be at Newark that will be up for sale mid August.

B) It is more of a track monster than a creature comfort car but we have gone on weekend trips in it very comfortably :D You can fit in tent, bags, clothes and beer quite easily and even my bum fits in the seats

It is well known, very fast and Tim assures me it handles very well. The look of the car is well used but a bit of polish can do wonders.

SUE

I havn;t got a clue what my exmo does 0-60 but I know one thing its xxxx fast. the trick is knowing how to change gear to the optimum - when you get it right its supurb- and thats with a 1.8 pinto standard carb - ultra reliable - not sexy - but dots my i's and leaves most production cars standing :D :D :D By the way did two years of karting million years ago 100c class so I know what exeleration is about even if I cant spell it!!!

Like most things it comes down to money! How much have you 'ear marked' for the Seven?

The Hoods are very cheap and as many have said great fun for the money. They are not the quickest of the Seven inspired cars due mainly to their weight. They use the complete trailing arms of the Sierra donar (others I'm sure will correct me if I'm wrong) which is a heavy brute, which pushes their weight up.

There are quite a few good other kits available The Dax Rush, quite expensive but a buetiful car. They have options for de-dion rear suspension, IRS, 4x4, and adjustable front suspension. There is Westfield another nice car but the interior demension are tiny. If you have a more robust phsique you will not fit in the thing. There is MK Indy who offer a good car at a very reasonable price, they have doublw wishbone suspension all round so they handle very well and are quite light. Their is also Mac#1 Motorsports Type LR, this the car I have gone for, they are very similar to the MK Indy.

You need to decide what you want out of the car. If you want it to replace your WRX you obviously want it to handle well and go fast. Fast comes down to money. I recently went out in a 150bhp pinto powered Mac#1 on a track day and I must admit it was quick. In fact it supprised me just how quick a pinto powered Seven can be. I am building my friends Mac#1 at the moment and he has chosen a Vauxhall 16v 2.0XE engine( Astra GTE, Calibra 16v). There are a lot of cost involved in this that you don't realise. For example you will need a special bellhousing to attach the Vauxhall unit to your ford geaar box, this also invloves a new push rod arm, spigot bearing, clutch friction plate possibly a new preasure plate. You will need a new shortened sump. You will neede to convert the engine over to Carbs (twin 45's) or throttle boddies and an engine management system.

THis will give you about 180bhp on carbs and about 2005bhp on throttle boddies. Now think about the weight, 500kg for a Mac#1 and you are looking at some serious BHP per tone. Even with a 145bhp Pinto engine you are still looking a serious figures.

This all adds up! Oh and there will be quite a few little things you may possibly need thay you didn't think about like, engine degreasers, gasgets, gromits, nuts, bolts, paint, stearing rack boots, break pads, masking tape, tools, bulbs, the list goes on.

I'm not saying this to scare you of the idea but as I am in the middle of doing all this at the moment it is very fresh in my mind and it is worth allowing a buffer in your budget to allow for the unfoseen little bits.

The Seven inspired cars have a major grin factor ask anyone who owns one or has been in one. You need to pick the car to suit you budget. These guys can tell you just about everything you need to know about a Robin Hood and are damn friendly...............sarcastic but friendly :D

Bob may be one of the "old" school being based on the Ford Cortina but he is f... quick. He has about 180 brake on tap and over the years I have altered the running gear to make it handle. Last year I took my brother in law out and two up he managed 0-60 in just under 6 seconds. He is also surprisingly economic when he is treated well.

You get out of the car what you can afford but at the end of the day the car must handle and stop before you make it go any faster. The better handling and stopping car will always beat a similar car that has more power.

Ps the nut holding on to the wheel also has a lot to do with it

Wow, I knew those Vauxhall lumps were powerful, but that takes the p***!

and about 2005bhp on throttle boddies

You must tell me where those throttle bodies come from, I could do with a set like that! ;)

Well last year while on a trip to NASA I kind of saw them sitting on the side, well they were shiny how could I resist!

Their is a couple of small issues to get round though

1) Trying to find a petrol station that has the necersary liquid fuel

2) Trying to find the right tyre compound to deal with the power

3) Trying to stop the bugger :D
