Hi All

an old nwest member has written to me about the sale of his part built 2b, so putting it on here to see if any members fancy making an offer

details here

Robin Hood 2B part built kit car details.

Purchased November 1999. I have all the relevant purchase paperwork

Donor vehicle -1984 1.6 sierra (although I’ve not used many parts from the donor vehicle!) .The vehicle was scrapped but I have the V5 and vehicle tags. The vehicle has been declared sorn since 1999. So once IVA’d the car would be given an age related plate.

Kit

Chassis

Mild steel tubular space frame – fully painted in black hammerite prior to any assembly

Converted to double wishbone front suspension (originally came with a sliding pillar arrangement – early builders reported it was rubbish so many have now converted to a more conventional double wish bone set up.)

All brake and fuel lines have been run and a brand new bespoke wiring loom is also fitted.

Floor mounted pedal box – cable clutch, twin cylinder brake set up with balance bar, twin throttle cable accelerator pedal.

Body

Currently fully panelled up (mild steel panels – have been painted in primer externally but now show some very light surface rust – (all panels were painted with black hammerite internally before and after fitting and the rear panels have been under sealed)

Front cycle wing brackets fitted and cycle wings (wide) attached.

The only panels left to fit are the bonnet and nose cone. Note: The kit was designed with what was referred to as an alligator bonnet where the windscreen was mounted to the bonnet and nose cone so the whole front lifted up. I have changed this so that the windscreen sits on a scuttle and the bonnet and nose cone are therefore separate to it. I have had an aluminium bonnet made but this will require a hole cutting in it and the fitment of a bonnet scoop as the top of the cam cover of the red top sits slightly proud of where the original pinto engine would have sat.

Suspension/Steering

Front – double wishbone set up with Gaz coil overs

Rear – sierra 2.9 XR4I torque tube and wish bones with rear anti roll bar. Standard sierra shock absorbers (new) and sierra estate springs.

Standard sierra steering column with snap off 3 spoke steering wheel.

Steering rack as supplied with the kit and mounted on aluminium spacers to reduce bump steer.

Transmission

Type 9 5 speed sierra box believed 2.3 diesel.

Vauxhall to ford bell housing – Vauxhall flywheel and 7.25 inch ford pressure and friction plate.

Cable operated clutch.

Rear diff from 2.9 XR4I (LSD)

Propshaft to fit ford/Vauxhall configuration

Brakes

Front – standard sierra 243mm (i think) vented disc and single pot callipers.

Rear – XR4I – 240mm (i think) solid discs and callipers

Handbrake – Corsa C hand brake lever mounted to passenger side of transmission tunnel mated to sierra hand brake cables.

Twin cylinder brake set up split front to rear with balance bar and additional in line rear brake adjuster.

All brake lines copper with braided flexi hoses

Engine

1990 Vauxhall 2.0XE redtop (not a coscast head engine) – standard engine bar AP big end bolts.

Genuine opel manta big wing sump and correct dip stick tube and stick.

Original 4 branch tubular red top exhaust manifold modified to rear wheel drive configuration and attached to side mounted chrome single box exhaust system

Ignition is via standard astra distributor and coli/ignition amplifier set up.

Note : New cambelt/tensioner and rollers were fitted sometime in 2000 and the engine has only been run a few times since but has been regularly turned over and the bores given a bit of redx from time to time. When the engine ran it did not smoke or make any strange noises.

Fuelling

9 gallon stainless steel tank fitted with VDO sender and electric fuel pump (boot mounted)

Twin 40 DCOE Webbers (rebuilt and jetted accordingly) mounted on new inlet manifold

Genuine webber twin throttle cable linkage.(New)

Cooling/ heating

VW Polo radiator matched to Porsche 944 cooling fan and shroud.

Fully plumbed in and has been run up to temp with fan cutting in accordingly.

Thermostatically controlled 10 row oil cooler

VW Polo heater fitted and associated demister pipes

Wheels and tyres

5 x refurbished 15” Peugeot 205 1.9 gti alloys (all matching speedline items)

Tyres – all Goodyear Eagle F1 195/50/15 ZR rated with yokohama A008 195/50/15 spare. All tyres have plenty of tread but are old now and have been stood for so long they may not be as ‘round’ as they should be!

Instrumentation

All new VDO gauges and associated senders. Gauges are black with orange needles.(if i remember)

1 x tachometer 100mm

1 x odometer 100mm (digital) will require electronic pick up for speed signal – i don’t have this

1 x fuel gauge 60mm – sender already mounted in the tank

1 x oil pressure gauge – sender already fitted to engine

1 x temperature gauge – sender already fitted to engine

1 x volt meter – battery connection required.

Various switches and lights for indicators, main beam, oil pressure, hand brake light etc all included.

Windscreen

2” larger (deeper) windscreen made and associated surround included. Just to give me a bit more clearance as i’m 6ft 1” and my head was just above the windscreen in the demonstrator i drove.

Wing mirrors mounted to windscreen supports.

Mini wiper motor and wiper arms/spindles – shortened blades required

I do not have a rear view mirror for the car.

Seats/Harnesses

Re-trimmed Porsche tombstone seats in light grey leather look vinyl piped in grey. On original Porsche sub frames – manual operation.

As supplied with the kit 2 x black 3 point harnesses

Note: There is a roll of carpet supplied with the kit to trim the interior panels however i have fitted aluminium chequer plate in the foot wells as its bound to get wet down there!

Wet weather gear

Full set wet weather gear included – hood/doors. There is also the associated metal work to build the frame but this has not been started.

Lights/Indicators

Front and rear lights as supplied with the kit – front chrome headlights to take 7 inch sealed beam units – rear standard trailer oblong clusters.

Front side repeaters – Audi 80

Front nose cone indicators off a motorbike and stalk mounted.

Main Work required (I will have missed some stuff!)

Off the top of my head:

Battery required

Fit bonnet and nose cone and then to either prep for paint or have it vinyl wrapped.

Steering column mounting bracket – it is mounted but just temporary while i was deciding on dashboard configuration/ instrument location.

Make dash board – fit/wire instruments (note: i have had all instruments temporarily wired while i was test running the engine etc – all worked fine all the lights worked off column switches etc

Brakes filling with fluid and bleeding.

Sort out electronic speed sensor for odometer

Fit front lights

Mount spare wheel

Fit seats – trim side panels (note: floor is already drilled for the seat subframes)

Trim boot area

Fit windscreen, wipers etc

Sort out windscreen washer supply and jets

Seal fuel filler neck to tank

As the kit has been stood for so long i suspect the brakes will need checking over.

I have various spares to go with the kit – spare set rear wishbones –bonnet catches, nut covers, radiator etc.

I’m hoping to sell it complete and get £2k for it but if i’m struggling i may break it.

happy to pass details on if anyone interested
