Many thanks for input ,am leaning towards tired starter and will prob fit a high torque replacement when I scrape the readys together the earlier autocross adventure thinned the wallet out a bit may sort a part no and give ECP a try mick

If your starter is getting lazy it could be worn motor bearings causing the rotor to contact the stator, the bearings are Bronze and can easily be replaced by home made ones.

Battery tested [2 places ] not fubared but def tired , starter removed and checked ,much play in bearings possible solenoid issues price to close to a new hi torque replacement to make sense so path is laid out !!!!!!!!!! mick

theres a place 200 yds from amberley garage . mark b's old place that could easily and cheaply rebuild the starter

 

they aint that expensive are they
