Capri Clocks

Got my eyes on some Capri Clocks. They are complete & the guy has the multi plug that goes on the back of them, what else would I need to make them work?

I know you have to change the fule sender (for a Mk2 Escort one right??) but are all the other senders & connections all ok?

He says he doesn't have the little black voltage regulator that goes on the back of the rev counter is that critical?

Got the idea of keeping my eye out from the NW web site. Thanks guys - they look good!

Hi,

I had a set of capri clocks in my series III until recently, over the winter I made a new dash with VDO clocks. The capri clocks definately need the voltage regulator as this feeds the rev counter, fuel and temp guages. I used the sierra fuel sender and it worked OK but the reading was not linear. The water temp used a yellow sendor. I went around a scrap yard and removed every pinto sender I could find, they are colour coded. I tried each one to try and get a normal reading in the centre of the scale. The oil pressure is capillary so you will need the tube and end piece that screws into the engine block. The ammeter is somewhat contraversial, do a search on "capri clocks" to see how it is thought to work.

Hope this helps.

Agreed - you will need the voltage regulator but disagree on the temp sender. The Capri pinto sender is listed as the White sender on the Ford microfiche. However it is rather an 'off-white' that looks more like cream. Only a few quid from Ford.

You will also need a capillary oil pressure gauge pipe. This simply screws into the engine, replacing the oil pressure switch of the Sierra.

Although I have not connected it the ammeter is wired to the battery +ve and the other end to the Batt+ connecter of the alternator.

Can't answer your question on fuel sender as I have not yet got my fuel gauge working correctly but can say that if you use the Sierra unit you will read just over 1/2 with the tank full. Let me know if you get it working correctly please.

Lastly depending on what ratio diff you have you will find that the speedo is not correct. I have a white speedo template that looks exactly the same as the revcounter that you can print onto photo quality adhesive paper and stick on. This is for a 3.92:1 diff on Capri clocks that I created in Photoshop after taking a GPS device out with my wife noting exact positions of each 10mph so it is spot on. However if you are using a standard diff this will be no good to you. The 3.92:1 diff came (with LSD) on the 2.0L late model XR4 (and early 1.6 estates if I remember correctly) most of the rest are 3.62:1.

Hi, like salty monk Ihave just pirchased some Capri clocks and am ready to fit.Looking at the NW site it mentions "Caution when wiring the Amp" any ideas why ,is it not just a case of red to battery + and yellow to-oram i missing something. does it need fusing, relay etc.

I will worry about the Fuel sender and temp later.

Steve.

I wrote "caution" in that line because I had no idea how to wire it myself, and there was an ongoing debate as to how to wire it up by members on this board I

seem to recall
