Hi All,

Can anybody tell me what connections I need connected to my Coil on the SuperSpec via the ECU and battery etc? If I connect it as I though it was it gets so hot you cant touch it so it looks like there is a short somewhere, I am not getting a spark either, not sure if its knackered the coil?

Also i cant remember how the ignition switch was wired, any advice on this would be great.

Thanks,

If the coil gets that hot so you cannot touch it, it's likely to be even hotter inside and may have damaged the varnish / enamelled coating and created a short inside.

What are the coil resistance measurements?

Simon.

According to the 'official' Rover ECU wiring diagram, Pin1 (White/Yellow) should go to the Coil -ve and Pin 25 (White/Black) should go to the Coil +ve.

But on my copy of the Superspec wiring diagram Pin 1 is not used and Pin 25 (White/Black) actually goes to the Coil -ve. The Coil +ve appears to be connected to Pin 4 on the ignition (White, and I assume is a switched +12V supply ?), which is also connected to Pin 11 on the ECU (Green/Pink) which is the 'Ignition Sensing' pin.

I don't enough about how the ECU works to explain the logic of all that so can't promise anything.

Forgot to add that from diagram ignition switch appears to have 3 wires

Pin 1 (Brown) (12V in from battery ?)

Pin 4 (White) (12V out switched supply ?)

Pin 7 (Brown/Red) From Engine (Starter ?)

Still guesswork :)

Thanks Simon/Alan,

Back to the garage, I wouldn't mind but it did work once! Just a long time between starting to re-wire and now so most of it I have forgotten, its my age!

I will give it a try and see if I get anything.

Thanks again for the info guys, I now have a spark and you cant cook an egg on the coil any more!

Managed to clean out all the old fuel last night from the pipes and tank, looked like Cola!

Watch this space!

Cheers,

The good news is that its now up an running, bit of spluttering and farting to begin with but settled down and running well!

Can anybody advise which wires from the engine/ECU loom are for the engine temp, battery warning and oil warning lamp?

Provisionally booked the MOT for Tuesday next week so fingers crossed for a good day!

Have you got the standard Escort instrument cluster ? The one with a Blue and Black multiplugs ? If so this is as far as I have got so far. Might help if your colours are the same.

Thanks Alan,

I did have the ford one originally (years ago) but I have replaced it with Smiths Telemetrix Gauges, i should be able to work it out with the info you have given me above. I defiantly owe you a few beers if we meet up at a show!!!

Cheers,
