Is there 12 volts at the brake pedal switch on one of the two wires? Have you tried continuity testing on the switch? Does 12 get to the bulb? Is the bulb earthed? That lot should get you going in the right direction.

cheers ant, will check... ta

bit more info... the rear red lights work ok with column switch (so not sure how brake lights function? does more current go to same bulb when brakes on? making light brighter...)

the low brake fluid light not functioning

the brake lights dont come on when i connect the two brake pedal wires...

electrics are difficult... could i re wire the circuit as hains?

what colour wires are brakes to rear cluster?

sooooo many questions (from a first time builder!!!!)

Steve, unless you've got some fancy lights or something, you should have 2 filaments in the bulbs, and 2 contacts on the bottom of the bulb. the smaller filament is for tail lights, the beefier one for brake lights.

With the ignition on, there should be a constant +ive feed to 1 side of the brake light switch at the pedal, the other side runs to the light clusters, to feed the correct side of the bulb, earth usually comes back via the bodywork on a common return from the light cluster.

check the supply to the swicth with a test lamp or 12 volt bulb in a lamp holder, attach one end to either the battery or the chassie ( earth it out) and the other to live side of the switch, if bulb does not light up strart at the fuse for the lights and work along the loom, you should have a supply at the hand brake switch, is it ignition fed, may sound daft, have you switched the ignition on

Green wire is switch feed to brake switch and green/purple to to lamp

Check that the prong in the bulb holder is making contact, do not think it will be that unless only 1 lamp working.

The stop light goes brighter because of the filiment in the bulb glows brighter due to the rating of the bulb, greater the wattage of the bulb, the brighter.

on a stop tail light there are two filiments in the one bulb, 5 watts for the side light and 21 watts for th stop light. Does your side lights work okay, if so you must have an earth connected.

does ne1 know if the brake lights come from a different feed from the driving lights?

this may be the problem as im usin the vg loom with the efi engine loom so not connected all the feeds...

now sorted, was the feed issue, connected up to ignition with fuse and wehay!

startin to look and be a car now!

hi

do the simple thing if the switch is working take off the old wires and run a new wire from the switch to the light bulb. from the other side of the switch find a live wire with ignition on put in a indipendnt fuse and pop it on the other side of the switch.hey presto problem solved in ten mins. if you know how to use a multi metre this would help you loads rather than haveing to fiddle about with test light
