Dan your 100% correct. Change the cams to a little more duration and it will extend the usable rev range. Go too far and you will loose bottom end power as a sacrifice for gaining in the upper rev range.

What you have looks spotty dog.

 

If you wanted you could flow the head instead of a cam swap. About same price too if you paid for it. Wouldnt extend rev range much if at all because of the cams but would raise both torque and horse power accordingly. Depending on the job, perhaps 10% across the board.
