This is the car that the Caterham design and the number 7 came from, it's a piece of history that has sporned most of the 7 based kit cars. Nice to see one.

It's what is now called the MOT

 

The test was introduced in 1960 and all cars over ten years old had to be tested for brakes, lights and steering. The age of cars covered was gradually reduced until 1967 when all cars over three years old were required to be tested.

 

The original test really took some old wrecks off the road - prior to that you could be prosecuted for driving a vehicle "in unroadworthy condition" by the police.

Wasn't it Barbara Castle that introduced the 70 limit ( and later seat belts and the breathalyser )

 

Very little slowed my Ruby - especially the centre pedal
