Lakes Run Out Sunday 17th Oct

Big Jim

Recommended Posts

After having to cancel the run over Hardknot pass twice, due to weather problems, We will give it one more go this weekend (Sunday 17th) weather permitting!

Meet up at the "Truck Haven" services, that's off the M6 at junction 35A, for an 11am away.

The plan (for what there is of it!) is to go over the pass from east to west, stopping on the other side, at the Ravensglass railway for lunch (Flask & butties) then a nice drive along the A roads back, finishing up at a pub for tea.

We're going this time, decision has been made!

(If we're not back on the board by 9pm at the latest, send out the Search & Rescue!)

well, according to autoroute, 38 minutes, so I'd say, anytime between 11-30am, and 12-30pm (depending on breakdowns!!)

just looked at the BBC weather forecast, it says, sunny with localised showers.

the met office is a bit less optimistic, it says, mainly cloudy with localised showers, some of them heavy.

OK, I ain't posponeing it any more, WE GO AS PLANNED!

North East Lads will set off from McDonalds Thinford on the A167 just after 9.00.

We hope to meet up with the North West lads at noon at the petrol station in Newby Bridge. We have Big Jims mobile No. and will call if we cannot make the Newby Bridge rendezvous.

Well Guys & Gals, we made it OK, never saw any rain, although there were plenty of seriously black clouds around.

Only a couple of minor breakdowns, one of the North East contingent bent one of his very nice fancy alloy wheels, hitting a large stone in the road (off a drystone wall) big Kev's silencer bracket came loose on him, then late on, Gregs rear brakes decided to lock on, so he finished the last leg of the journey, on "The big truck with the flashing lights!"

Here's a piccy of us coming off Hardknott pass, there's Hoods as far as the eye can see (22 of them in fact!), every vehicle you can see on the road is a Hood (well, except for Pugwash's Westy!)

The cops were not impressed when 22 Hoods parked the wrong way in the lay-by tho!

I think they thought better of actually saying anything to us though!...........Big Jim
