Charging Batteries "on Car"

As said before, the battery is very low internal resistance so connecting a charger to it and charging with it on the car should be fine as long as it’s got electrolyte in it because it absorbs most of the spikes. When you jump start a car, one battery flat and one with a higher charge the little 'sparks' as you connect it produce lots of high voltage spikes but again these are absorbed by the battery.

When you are welding, the high current sparks produce LOADS of RF (radio frequency) waves in the chassis so you should disconnect the 0V of the battery to reduce the amount of this that goes into your wiring loom and into the circuitry of your ECU.

Just out of interest, if anyone has trouble with neighbours music coming through into your house I can show you how to make a 'spark cap transmitter' that can get rid of the problem ;)
