Hi there,

Occasionally alloy sumps as used on the RS MK2 escorts comes up for sale on eBay. I'm pretty sure the alloy sump base is level with the bottom of the bellhousing which is the same depth as most home made shortened sumps. Alternatively I think some of the other kit car manufacturers like Westfield and Tiger etc. can supply shortened sumps (for a price of course  ).

Ta,

tiger racing do a shortened sump and pick up pipe on an exchange basis- £85 plus £10 postage plus vat and your old sump and pick up pipe.

bit pricey but if you cant weld and dont know anybody who does then its the way to go.

oh yeah not even painted for that money either.

Hi,

I emailed round various places the other day asking how much they charged for a shortened sump - up to £200 from one engine company!! I was beginning to think it would be cheaper to just buy a welder and learn how to do it myself. However, the Tiger price seems ok - they said to phone their parts department so I'll do that tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers,

Ed

It sounds like you just failed on the welding bit (Ditto)

why not take it to a proper welder to finish it off it sould not cost much more than £30 just for the welding.

Hi,

a quick update on the Tiger sump. The total cost was £111.60 plus about £8 postage to get it there. Not as cheap as doing it the NW Hoodies way but the end result seems to be as good. It took them less than a week to do it and get it back to us. I tried contacting RT Motorsport first but their contact page didn't seem to work properly and I never got a reply. Hopefully a picture of the finished article from Tiger should be below. Just needs a bit of POR15 paint and then it should be looking pretty good. Regards,

Eddie

that welding is some of the worst i've seen in a long time, and at over a hundred pound i wouldn't get one, but if it doesn't leek then i suppose it doesn't matter, Sorry for the bad remark but i'm a skilled welder and i know it woldn't cost that much in time and labour to do that job plus it would be of a better finish

thats the b*ll*x i like the finish, Maybe some people could learn from that, the problem is the better things start to look the more time u have to spend in keeping them that way
