  1. Wow, wow & wow....What an eye opener and a great bunch of "Hoods!"

So happy we went, lots of food, beer and cheery banter. Pity it all had to end.

Reality kicks in this morning whilst at work and completely exhausted, but at least we have another event to book in the 2015 calendar :)

Thank to all for making us feel welcome.

    Dino, Nikki & the Sprogs.

.....now where's the bloody camera charger!

Yes great fun nice to meet you all. Even the drive home in wet was fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Patience, patience and patience.

Lots of WD40, hot air and a very big steel bar and lots of patience....

    More WD40 and more waiting...

    More WD40 and waiting..

Finally 4 plugs out and new ones in with a drop of grease.

We ave managed to remove the old ballast points ignition and put in new sparks, HT leads, ignition coil and change the distributor to a non point system, whilst tracking down an electrical fault and renewing part of the wiring loom. :sorry:

Crocodile smile fitted back on and a quick trip around the block to make sure it's running ok.......! 8)

Now the temperature sensor for the fan has packed up :diablo: ........I will just bypass it with a switch for now (done).

Just needs a good tune up and new temperature sensor and it should be ready for Hollowell :)

Thank to up the help today....Dino & Nikki.

  3. It's Alive...! :db:

I just needed to find the correct TDC...which was covered in oil. (oh and a little self confidence).

Manually cranked engine around to the TDC and went thru posting 3 in order.

Engine fired up first time, no back firing or stuttering.

Just need to fine tune it and enjoy the sun.

Thank you everybody for you input and enjoy the rest of the day.

Next time any of you are around Brum, give us a shout and pop in for a cuppa :)

    Much appreciated Dino & Nikki

  4. If the dizzy is just one tooth out, then you should be able to just rotate the dizzy body left or right until the engine starts.

You will need a timing light to set it accurately though.

I believe that as the cog is helical cut, you could have easily got it one or two teeth out when re-fitting.

    Simon.

Doesn't seem to want to play ball when I try rotating it.

It goes from just turning over and over again (and running battery down), to one position where the car tries to fire and backfires.

    But never actually starts.

  5. Best to see what you're set at currently before removing the dizzy.

So set engine to TDC then have a look where the rotor is facing before removing the dizzy and refitting.

Too late for this....the old dizzy was removed this morning.

I'm now talking about setting up the new dizzy without knowing what the original was set at. (I wasn't around when it was removed).

  6. Hi,

Sounds like your timing is way out or you may have swapped HT leads by mistake ?

If you fitted a new dizzy, the cog may be one tooth out, so what you "think" is the right position - isn't.

Have you got a timing light?

You could try rotating the dizzy body a little at a time first one way, then the other and see if that helps.

    Simon.

HT leads are in the same order as before (marked them in advance to make sure :) )

    Hmmmm. one tooth out,

    Will the following help:

    Remove the dizzy again

    Set the engine at TDC.

Insert the dizzy making sure the rotor faces number 1.

Try engine and adjust tick over by twisting dizzy.(if it starts?)

Then use timing light to fine tune.

  7. Can anybody help.... :help:

Robin Hood 2B with 2.0 Pinto was working ok, until fault found on wiring to distributor.

Fitted new distributor and car keeps trying to start but backfires and never gets going.

Can anybody give any advise or fancies popping around Sunday for tea and cake. (Brum area).

    TIA Dino & Nikki
