  1. Happy days, thanks lads. Managed to find them. Any idea where i can get the stainless grills that con on the side of the 2b's? Need to blank the old exhaust hole up as it now comes out the other side.

    muchos gracias

  2. Ford speedo cables turn 1000 revolutions per mile assuming your running same diff and same rolling diameter tyres as donor, I dont know what pulses the sender gives per turn but this should give you a good starting point.

cheers for the reply mate. That doesnt mean nothing to me to be honest. the sender would be off a newer ford, ie a mondeo or summit.

    Thanks anyways tho appreciated

  3. hey all, im nearly there on my concersion now. I have fitted a re-built xe with ms v3 extra and blackbird boddies into my 2b. My next bit is to get the old astra gte 16v digi dash to work with the type 9 box. Now i have bought an adapter that allows you to fit an electronic sender to the box.

What i would like to know is has anyone done this as yet and if so do you have any advice?

Does anyone know how many pulses per rev a new ford speedo sender has?

Last but not least does anyone have a pic they could post of the type 9 box where the speedo cable enters the box?

Thanks for any input, much appreciated

  4. well done mate. must have been hard we did liverpool to landsend on motorbikes last week in 3-4hrs and my ass was numb as hell after that so god knows how you felt. There was a group of lads from the marine commando's at lands end when we got there that had just done the same as you but in reverse. Total respect.... Well done

  5. Mine's almost exactly the same as the 'Type 1' design in the link above, except the fuel feed and return connections might be 8mm, I can't remember exactly...........

Mine is use to get round the fuel surge problem, as mentioned above, but also helps cool and de-aerate the fuel

mine is to feed the hp pump, obviously, but also when cornering to stop the fuel slopping about before it gets to the hp pump. Im also considering building a corsa pump and swirl pot into the origional tank. What do you think?

  6. right, i need to make a swirl pot for my 2b. Am i right in thinking that they are just flow and return in from LP pump and tank? Then flow to HP pump and return back from FPR?

Could i make one out of 100mm copper with 10mm spigotts for the LP pump flow and return and 22mm flow for the HP pump and a 10mm spiggot for that return?

IM a heating engineer, and have no probs braising to blank the ends etc.

Ive allready got the materials so would just be saving money, just not sure if i can use the copper etc. Also do you think the sizes above will be ok or can i use 10mm for the HP aswell?

  7. Bit of an update, i have ended up removing the old brake setup and fitting a pedal box (god these arnt cheap)lol. Im waiting for sbd to get me my hydraulic clutch stuff now. Desperately need a MS map to get it running tho.. IM all excited, cant wait for that 1st start

  8. HI, i am well underway with my pinto to xe conversion, i really want it finished by the end of July, I now have the engone and box, repositioned. Question is, when i get rid of the servo, does the master cylinder just blt to the pedal? Also is the non servo braking force going to be a hard drive?

If i wanted to use a mini cooper remote servo, would this be up to the job?

  9. Probably is too high, put a straight edge across the chassis top tubes just in front of the cambelt cover, then measure from the bottom of the straight edge to the top of the cam cover, from memory this needs to be 150mm to allow the bonnet to shut.

Also is the engine straight as that will let the filter clear the tube, but your drive train ain't straight.

thanks for the reply mate, i had it sat too high. ive lowered it now and erm it hits the tube lol. Have you got any more picsa of your plough tube mod by any chance?

  10. HI throttle boddies arrived today, i have now removed the engine and fitted the new bell housing.. The trouble is, i feel that the face of the housing sits a little too far back! How much play is there in the shaft of the type9 box to move it forward? Is it just a case of undoing the 2 gearbox mount bolts at the front and re-sitting them further forward?

Starting to panic a little now.

  11. THE CAR ITSELF IS FANTASTIC, i would have loved to start from scratch, my passion is cars but i just dont have the time to build my own i run my own businnes and that take up alot of time plus 2 young children.

I paid 3k for this one which is finished. Would have been alot more if i had started from scratch. I want to fit the xe to put my mark on it and give it a little more ooomph.

    Loving this site btw.

  12. What are you proposing in way of improvement and as a suggestion would it be possable to alow for easyer adjustment of camber IE not having to take out top ball joint adjust refit check take out again re adjust. #

COuld this not be acieved by having the ball joint thread lengthened, drilling the hole out and adding 2nuts either side to lock the thread?

  13. thanks steve, much appreciated. do you attend the meets? wouldnt mind having a look at your setup if you didnt mind, Stockport isnt too far away.

Would you advise a hydraulic clutch? ive seen a pedal box i am going to use that has the hydraulic facility maybe wold make it a bit easier.

think i may have got around the induction issue, i have bought these and plan on making a custom inlet to suit with a megasquirt ecu or similiar.

Anyone have any experiance in the blackbird boddies?

  15. thanks for the info chaps, seem to be getting closer, picked her up today. gave her a good blast on the way back. Cant wait to give my old xe the kiss of life.

Im handy with a welder, so i should be ok. any pics of a modified 8v sump? my exhaust at the mo comes out o/S. what will i do with the hole when it gets moved to the N/S. wahoooooooooo i cant wait.

  16. Gareth

the gearbox doesn't need moving forward, you'll need a new bellhousing and clutch arm (rs2000), use the pressure plate from one of your engines, either a tranny diesel friction plate or one from SBD/QED/Westfield, ford release bearing, the spigot bearing is a small bearing that goes inside the end of the xe crank to accept the type 9 input shaft.

You'll need to modify the drivers footwell as well as removing a lug off the bellhousing on that side to get the engine to fit straight, new or modified pedals and brake set up.

Engine mounts will have to be custom made, not hard, and peugeot 306 rear subframe mounts are good for the rubbers.

Exhaust manifold can be done by cutting and shutting the original as per the instructions in the NW link, bit tricky but not too bad.

I've seen a westy with the original intake system, so it can be done but you'll probably need to re-route the steering column to another bearing and UJ fixed to the side chassis rail and maybe fit a bulge to the bonnet.

the plough tube need altering to fit around the oil fliter and the cooler needs to go too.

    have a look here

    Steve

    Thanks for the input steve/paul.

Steve, what is the plough tube? is it hard to re-route im pretty handy with a mig so im sure i can nope. What is the issue with the drivers footwell?

as per the pedal box what is involved? I can fabricate some parts to an extent but would prefer to buy off shelf if pos, i notice the xe exhaust manifold is N/S but the outllet is O/S where did you cross it over?

i will ring yupspeed for prices too where did you get your bits n bobs?

Once again thanks so much for all the info. very very appreciated
