  3. HI, i am well underway with my pinto to xe conversion, i really want it finished by the end of July, I now have the engone and box, repositioned. Question is, when i get rid of the servo, does the master cylinder just blt to the pedal? Also is the non servo braking force going to be a hard drive? If i wanted to use a mini cooper remote servo, would this be up to the job?
  4. thanks for the reply mate, i had it sat too high. ive lowered it now and erm it hits the tube lol. Have you got any more picsa of your plough tube mod by any chance?
  5. ive got the engine in situ now, (i have sent the head away,) the thing is, the plough tube isnt fouling the oil filter in any way? Could it be that i have the engine set too high?I have got the engine and box level, is this right?
  6. HI throttle boddies arrived today, i have now removed the engine and fitted the new bell housing.. The trouble is, i feel that the face of the housing sits a little too far back! How much play is there in the shaft of the type9 box to move it forward? Is it just a case of undoing the 2 gearbox mount bolts at the front and re-sitting them further forward? Starting to panic a little now. Gareth
  7. THE CAR ITSELF IS FANTASTIC, i would have loved to start from scratch, my passion is cars but i just dont have the time to build my own i run my own businnes and that take up alot of time plus 2 young children. I paid 3k for this one which is finished. Would have been alot more if i had started from scratch. I want to fit the xe to put my mark on it and give it a little more ooomph. Loving this site btw.
  8. What are you proposing in way of improvement and as a suggestion would it be possable to alow for easyer adjustment of camber IE not having to take out top ball joint adjust refit check take out again re adjust. # COuld this not be acieved by having the ball joint thread lengthened, drilling the hole out and adding 2nuts either side to lock the thread?
  9. think i may have got around the induction issue, i have bought these and plan on making a custom inlet to suit with a megasquirt ecu or similiar. Anyone have any experiance in the blackbird boddies? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...bayphotohosting
  10. thanks steve, much appreciated. do you attend the meets? wouldnt mind having a look at your setup if you didnt mind, Stockport isnt too far away. Would you advise a hydraulic clutch? ive seen a pedal box i am going to use that has the hydraulic facility maybe wold make it a bit easier.
  11. thanks for the info chaps, seem to be getting closer, picked her up today. gave her a good blast on the way back. Cant wait to give my old xe the kiss of life. Im handy with a welder, so i should be ok. any pics of a modified 8v sump? my exhaust at the mo comes out o/S. what will i do with the hole when it gets moved to the N/S. wahoooooooooo i cant wait.
  12. sorry for using the quote button...fiat punto eh, what model? has it been done?> im literally just weighing up all my options, the xe will be dragged out of the shed 2mro for inspection. ;-)
  13. one more thing, is it possible to add power steering to the 2b?
  14. Thanks for the input steve/paul. Steve, what is the plough tube? is it hard to re-route im pretty handy with a mig so im sure i can nope. What is the issue with the drivers footwell? as per the pedal box what is involved? I can fabricate some parts to an extent but would prefer to buy off shelf if pos, i notice the xe exhaust manifold is N/S but the outllet is O/S where did you cross it over? i will ring yupspeed for prices too where did you get your bits n bobs? Once again thanks so much for all the info. very very appreciated
  15. exellent bit of reading mate, as said, im currently daunting on the same challenge.. great work, anymore pics?
  16. thanks for the replies, i have mangaged to source most of the part i need from SBD motorsport, works out at just over 550+vat for the kit.(including sump, clutch, bearings, adapter) does that seem right. Where can i get engine mounts from? I am a little concearned by having to move the box forward. Need to figure out what to do for induction too. would like to keep it standard if pos to save pennies for the future. Spigot bearing is this the trust bearing? sorry to be a complete noob Gareth
  17. thanks for the replies, im from Liverpool, can i ask about the bell housing, does it just bolt onto the type 9 bell housing or is it a box out job? I heard that the box has to be moved forward, is that true? Ive read the write up some good infor there. I will be ok with mounts i think, Is it possible to use the origional intake system?
  18. Hi, 1st i would like to say hello as im new to the site. I have also pm'd this to another member for info, I have today bought a completed (E reg sappire) 2001 b2 with a 2.0 pinto and 5 speed type 9 box, i know absoutely nothing about Fords, I am a huge fan of Vaux. Basically, i have 2no. xe engines, one from a 89 gte valve and another from a K reg Cav SRI valve (dis-less). I would like to use the Cav engine. 1. Am i right in thinking that the adapter bolts to the origonal type 9? 2. What clutch pressure plate did you use? Was the spline long enough? 3. You also mentioned that the box now has to be moved forward? what was involved? Any thoughts? Best wishes Gareth
