Ampilifier Wiring

Hi all

On the ford amplifier you have 2 wires a black/red & green/yellow, these need to be connected to the distributor via the 3 pin plug. Out of the plug are 2 wires a purple and orange. which do I connect to which.

The dizzy should have the same black/red and green/yellow wires and perhaps a brown earth. Strip the insulation back a little behind the plug to identify. Purple and orange are not sierra standard colours for dizzy wires.

I've got a 2.0 pinto circa 1989, the dizzy does have orange and purple wires coming from it. Would it make much difference or damage if I tried them one way, and then the other if it didn't run.

Assuming you don't have a points dizzy then a 2 wire dizzy is VR rather than hall based. It shouldn't matter which way round its connected up. The VR sensor doesn't have power, it generates voltages.

89 ohc should be hall effect 3 wire dizzy, injected or carb model.

Well it does it have 3 wires from the dizzy going in to the plig Purple/orangr & black. But on the other side of the plug only the orange & black come through. Don't ask me why.
