Zetec Engine Will Not Fit

Can any one help me before I sell this kit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been trying for 4 weeks to get my zetec 2 .0 ltr with a type 9 box into a super spec 05 kit. I have had a new mounting plate added to the chassis temporary, had the sump lowered, but when the engine is in position the bonnet is 1 inch above the chassis with the bonnet resting on the cam belt plastic mould at the front of the engine. Also the sump is just touching the cross member and when the manifold is offer up it is way out as well. The pipes are running out above the top chassis tube through the bonnet.

I have been in contact with a member on rhocar that has fitted a zetec in a 2B who has been helping me.

Has any one else got any idea what to do next, I have been in contact with Richard at Robin Hood who suggest that I can lower the bottom chassis member but I do not have the tools/ welding gear or the skills to do that type of work.

I live in surrey and would appreciate some help or a visit from some one to make sure what I have done so far is correct

I have photos so I can email to any one

:(

I don't know how different the chassis is on a superspec but the Zetec engine in a 2b sits behind the cross member that runs across the bottom of the car and infront of the cross member that the pedal box fits to. It sounds like you have the engine too far forward if it is sitting on top of the lower crossmember, you may have to take the thermostat housing off the engine to get it back far enough and use the one from raceline that relocates the thermostat alongside the engine.

Looking at the photo you sent me Stephen by email looks like the superspec chassis rail is different. As Stu correctly points out, the 2B rail curves forward in a U shape and the sump sits inside it. I've emailed you some pictures of mine including the water rail fitted as you asked. I have 2" between the back of the engine and the bulkhead chassis rail, the raceline water rail fits nicely in that gap.

Its probably worth looking at the rear gearbox mount you have as well, as engine / box could be tilting. I think the Westfield one does the job, there has been a recent thread on this.

All the best

Andy

PS For the record I cheated and bought this car with the zetec fitted - Rich Hall and Carl Leonard originally fitted it, I'm now just fettling!

I'm not an expert on the old zetec 'E' by any means having chosen the Zetec 'SE' option, however I seem to recall reading once that there was several diferent sumps fitted depending on if the engine came from a mondeo or an escort & that the deep section may be at the opposite end (i.e. flywheel end instead of crankshaft pulley end).

Maybe someone more knowledgable can comment on this before I lead you down the garden path.

Andy is correct.

The Superspec chassis is different, therefore you may have to get someone to do a little welding. Are you local to Leicestershire \East Midlands.

I went to see him a while back. He had the sump modified by a company but they had made it uniform depth. Since its ali I advised him to get them to make one end shallower and maybe add a side box to keep the capacity up.

Thanks for all the info,

I have been on my Holidays during October.

I have sorted the problem with the help of Andy, Tim and others. The chassis on the super spec is different to the 2b as Stu has suggested. I have had the sump lowered, purchased a water rail kit from race line so the engine can move back and have got 2 new plates welded for the engine mounts, Will attempted to fit engine either this weekend or the next.

I must say that there have been times when I nearly decided to sell the super spec but I am hanging in there still.

Thanks for all your help with out this web site I think I would have given up ages ago

Stephen
