Anybody Altered Steering Shaft

my steering shaft knuckle hit the chassie tube up near the pedal mounting. i toke a ball pein hammer to the chassie tube and locally deformed it and it cleared ok, that was back some 5 or so years ago and the car has been on the road five years after passing sva and has given no problem.

thought triangular shaft had yo be a set length

 

It does....but only when it's fitted to a Sierra!!

 

You can lengthen it so long as it stays firmly fixed into both indentations in the hollow shaft.

 

Any chance of a piccie of the bit causing a problem? It sounds like the rack may be in the wrong p[lace?

I got another triangular shaft and welded it to mine, with a rod up the middle for safety! I tried pulling the triangular bit further out from the column but it just broke the bush which was dangerous, so i used the broken columns triangle to extend a new one from the scrappy, think it cost me £15
