My rear axle came to me part built so i don't know much about the donor except that it had 9" drums - therefore it was probably 2.0 or an estate. There is no tag on the diff.

I have cleaned and painted the diff housing which has the following numbers cast in : -

83BG4033AE

2654 (with "." below2,5 & 4)

G24525

+GF+

280 001

12

3L

There is also a "T" marked inth the body housing the offside rear oil seal.

Can anyone identify this unit. I have tried the NW site but none of my markings appear there.

I think they must just be casting numbers, which is not much help in determining ratios etc. If there is no tag whip off the backcover and take a look at the crown wheel. The ratio is etched onto the outside of it.

Take a look at this thread on the Sierra Owners Club site too:- http://forum.fordsierraclub.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=5843

I'm assuming you're looking for the ratio.

the most common ratios are 3.62 or 3.92.

There no need to dismantle it.

Mark the pinion where the propshaft connects

JAck up one wheel, turn it exactly 2 full turns while counting the turns

on the propshaft/pinion. for our purposes its easy to see if its nearer 3&1/2 or 4.
