Alternator Feed Wire

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

The alternator feed wire to the battery that I removed from my donor is too short. It's also 7mm in dia, looking in Halfords (coz that's where was open) they were selling 3mm dia wire for alternator feed to battery.

Please can someone tell me what diameter/amp capacity wire I need to buy to rewire my alternator feed?

p.s I have a small japanese (I think) alternator.

Many Thanks

Nige

I would say a cable rated 30A or more should be OK. That should be good for about 400W of load. Going to a larger cross section cable would be better still as you will get less volt drop. Brian

Many Thanks Brian - 30A rating explains the Halfords stuff.

As crimping tag ends on larger section cable will be an issue, Is it OK to run two lengths of 30A wire from the alternator to the battery in order to keep the voltage drop down?

Cheers

Nige
