anyone any idea why my computer volume control has started to do its own thing. Since tues it goes to max whenever it feels like, using the slider to reset it sometimes works but sometimes it simply goes straight back to max. Did a system restore last night and thought the problem has gone but switched on tonight and its back again. Virus check ran okay and did not pick up anything. any ideas?

what other audio/video applications are you using? they often take control, and use what they are set to. I personally always keep everything on max, and use the volume control on my amplifier.

What OS? What apps are you running? Have you installed anything new recently (RealPLayer for example)?

using windows xp, nothing new added recently have set volume control in real player and itunes to min but it is still doing it. Only changes the main control, not wave cd audio synth etc. It does it from scratch without opening anything - start up computer, check and reset volume control and it adjusts itself to max

Do you have a keyboard with volume control keys on it at all? Not stuck down?

Rotary control seems to be on the blink, now going to min when it pleases, could be time to start pleading with the boss!!! for upgrade Many thanks.

Or at least a new keyboard! You could pull the knob off and try cleaning aroudn the contact etc.?
