Zero Chassis Paint

What’s right with Hammerite? It is great for your steel gates and fences but don’t let it anywhere near a car. The stuff chips and then lifts trapping water so encourages rust. BTW a tin of the stuff will make a good door stop.

Doh!

Well too late for most of it as the side panels are fitted.

What if I re- coat the bits I can get to with chassis black?

Would that give better protection against chipping and therefore water penetration?

Maybe to late now, but it can't hurt to prevent against chipping. From what I know about hammerite, it's when you get a split in the paint and water gets underneath that it starts to flake. There's no right or wrong way, after all a stone a 70mph will chip almost anything.
