Temp Guage/sender

hi all,

 

my temp guage hasnt displayed the correct temp since i got the car, (always reading low; actually never getting above 50) and i put it down to a guage/sender mis match.

i've since been onto the makers and bought a sender that matches the guage. it arrived today and i wired it up, turned the ignition on and dropped the sender into a mug of boiling hot water in the hope that this would send the needle on its way. but it didnt move at all.

 

have i done something clueless?

maybe needs to be fitted to earth?

that would make sense. so i need to run a wire from the sender onto the chassi while the senders in my mug?

yes just thought but worth a go as yousaid just put bit wire on it sending it to earth.

hi,when you fit the sender dont put ptfe tape on threads,it will isolate the sender and you get no earth.

working fine now. thanks for the advice. all i need to do now is get it out of the mug and in the engine itself!
