how critical is the heatspacer underneath a downdraught weber?

anyone run without one ? the only thing i can see it doing is prevent fuel evaporation, when the engine isnt running

so hot starts may be a problem ?

 

i need some more space, and this is the easy way to get it

For the same reason mine runs without it, not had any issues yet.....

Many seem to run without it but I like the frying pan option

If you have a lot of venting in your bonnet you may be ok... it helps to keep things cool up there.
