Pinto Distributor

Hi,

Currently, building a Quantum Extreme with a 2l Ford Pinto. I got the engine reconitioned and with it came a BOSCH type distributor(see pic). Checked the distributor manf. number with ford which is incorrect for a 2l Ford Pinto - 83HF12100DA instead of 85HF12100DA (2000).

Do you have to use a 2ltr distributor in a 2ltr Ford Pinto or can you use one from a 1600?? Will the coil be a different size?

I am a bit puzzled by this distributor since it looks like the right one but I think its off something else - Escort/Fiesta? I ask my local Ford dealership but they were a bit unhelpful too. I intend to use the distributor with a standard ignition system using a coil and header plug rather than an ECU.

Thanks.

Phil Marsden.

I think that theses are actually the same units - I believe that Ford use the first two numbers to denote the model year and the other numbers refer to the technical bits.
